Step Two - Select your stone
Once we've talked through your options and you've accepted the quote, your stone will be selected. You'll get a completed job specification sheet at which point a 50% deposit is required. The deposit secures your stone so you can be sure you will receive your preferred option.

Step Three - Template sign off and confirmation
At this stage we'll book a site visit to measure and create a template for your benchtop which specifies the placement and number of joins, and confirms the type and colour of the stone. You will need to sign off on this template before we proceed. Once the template is signed off, we'll arrange an installation date which is usually 8-10 working days later.

Depth of benchtops
Depending on which look you wish to achieve the depth of your benchtop will be different. For example, a sleek shallower top or a bold deep top of 100mm or more.
Cut-outs for sink bowls
Sinks can be top-mounted, under-mounted or rebate undermounted. Placement of sinks in relation to the benchtop is crucial and needs to be carefully measured.

Edge profiles
The most popular edge profile is a pencil arris edge. However, there are a variety you can choose from including square arris, rolled edge, full and half bull nose and trapezium edge profiles.
Waterfall ends
Waterfall countertops are popular on kitchen islands because they act as a dramatic focal point in the room. This style allows the stone to waterfall down the side of your kitchen cabinetry, usually with mitred edges.

Joins
A benchtop without joins is preferable. However, if you have a kitchen island longer than 3m, you may need to have joins, or consider a different stone that comes in larger sizes.
Top tips for choosing your new benchtop

  • Consider the size of your kitchen - small kitchens are better suited to a light-coloured benchtop. For large kitchens, you can experiment with dark colours.
  • Take samples of other elements - matching your benchtop with your cabinets and floor is important for a cohesive finish. Take samples of your cabinets, tiles and flooring if possible to help you match colours and styles. You should also consider the lighting and how the stone will look in different lights.
  • Take photos and take notes - a camera, phone or notepad can save you the stress of forgetting which colours and styles you like when you leave the factory. Every slab is unique, therefore taking photos for a reference purpose can be useful.

Frequently asked questions about caring for stone benchtops

We recommend you clean your stone benchtop with hot soapy water or a special stone benchtop cleaner.

Consultants are experienced professionals who provide professional or expert advice in a particular field such as business. They work with organisations to provide independent opinions and expertise to help with assessments and decisions. A business consultant’s main responsibilities include providing opinions, explanations and recommendations to the decision-maker rather than provide conclusive answers. By not remaining accountable, the decision-maker retains their power in making gut-based decisions and allowing the consultant to continue consulting based on the end-decision.

Solid Stone NZ Ltd recommends you clean your engineered benchtop with hot soapy water. Please ask us about care instructions.

Stone is tough but sometimes chipping the edge of your benchtop can happen. If you do experience chipping please call us and we will arrange for one of our team to come and repair the chip.
